課程概述 |
" 課程概述：這門課以20世紀初至今的西方文化理論為主軸，採取一手原典及二手導論的交叉閱讀方式。「文化」一詞是Raymond Williams所言「當代社會最複雜的兩三個詞彙之一」，至少含括「高尚的精神修養、精緻的藝術作品、獨特的生活方式」三種很不相同的社會期待。以致雖然人間公認：文化是拯救庸俗世界的藥方！然而文化的定義本身，卻是一個戰場。有待拯救的那個庸俗，是什麼？沒有水準的庶人狂歡？或腦袋單調的科學理性？我們期待的文化，又應該屬於誰？是訓練有素的菁英？或不受羈絆的大眾？
本課程由青年馬克思的思想徑路切進文化理論的發展，著重研讀不滿於馬克思「存在決定意識」理論設定、並圖謀「以文化改變世界」的幾條思想脈絡。包括：德國法蘭克福學派之批判理論、英國伯明罕學派之文化研究，以及源於符號學的法國後結構及後現代理論。期望透過這些左派思想工具，有助思考當今政經掛帥的處境下，如何還能讓文化有力量、能解放。 |

能利用文化理論掌握文學及社會理論的交錯、
能理解文化理論思考現代及後現代的歧異、
能體會文化理論企圖解放人類社會的初衷。

課程要求 |
一、課間導讀：第4周起由修課同學輪值就各篇導讀20分鐘。導讀人須製作大綱（建議2頁），整理該文想解決的問題、文章構成、論證推進、結論（可借助各種中譯本，但務須忠於原著，遇有特定、重要、可疑字句，須加註英文；另可以提出自身或二手的批評與感想，但請置放在註腳以做區隔）。
二、讀書筆記：第4-17各周選取至少一篇原典撰寫閱讀筆記（包括摘要及心得，至少700字，無上限），於指定時間上傳CEIBA。
三、學期作業：期末作業須包含二個部分，總字數至少8,000字：（一）理論概念操作：選取思想家的概念進行理論討論，例如巴赫金的眾聲喧嘩、阿多諾及班雅明對革命大眾的想像、符號價值的理論演變；（二）將前述理論應用於文學（或文化）現象的研究議題（可以是只提出研究可能性、沒有完整材料的草稿）。學期結束後18天內繳交完整報告。 |
